Third Sunday of Advent
December 16, 2012

Mother: Let us start by singing "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" #211

All: (sing)
O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel.
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee oh Israel!

Child: Today is the third Sunday of Advent.

Child: We will light 3 candles.

Child: The light will be brighter.

Child: It makes me feel happier.

Child: We will relight the first candle for the promise God made to send His Son to us. (purple candle)

Child: We will relight the second candle for preparation. (purple candle)

Child: I'm so excited, I can hardly wait!

Father: We can be happy and joyful, for we have already heard the good news. We know that God is good, and just, and merciful. We know that when we do good things, we feel very happy inside.

Mother: Paul wrote to the Philippians "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say rejoice. Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand. Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Phillippians 4:4-9)

Child: Let's light the third candle for joy and peace. (the pink candle)

Child: Sometimes we're surprised by a feeling of joy when we thought we'd be sad for a long time.

Father: Joy can come unexpectedly; it fills up the hole that grief or sadness has dug. You wouldn't know what times are the best if you had never known bad times.

Mother: Let's sing "Joy to the World." #246

All: (sing)
Joy to the world! the Lord is come:
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Revise to suit your families. Please note that songs/hymns listed may be spoken instead of sung.
Next page is for the
