Christmas Eve
or Morning
(A Family
Worship)
Father: Let's sing "O Come All Ye Faithful" #234
All: (sing)
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels!
O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!
Child: Let us relight the first candle for that wonderful promise. (purple candle)
Child: Let's relight the second candle for preparation. (purple candle)
Child: Let's relight the third candle for peace and joy. (pink candle)
Child: Let's relight the fourth candle for love. (purple candle)
Mother: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." (John 1:1-5)
Child: Let's light the Christ candle for He is the light of the world. (white candle)
Child: He shines like a light to all people.
Child: He is also our very own light to give us hope and to lead the way to God, our Father.
Child: Let's sing "O Little Town of Bethlehem." #230
All: (sing)
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
Father: Let us bow
our heads in prayer:
Thank you, God for keeping your promise to
send a saviour into the world to bring light into the darkness.
Let us soak up that light by learning more about You by studying
the life of Jesus. Let the light of your love shine out from us
to others. Amen.
Conclude with any favorite Christmas carol.
Revise to suit your families. Please note that songs/hymns listed may be spoken instead of sung. If this is used on Christmas morning, replace the purple and pink candles with all white candles - white is the color of Christmas-tide.
Merry
Christmas !
